Our Mission at Parx Racetrack Chaplaincy
The Parx Racetrack Chaplaincy Program is committed to providing comprehensive support to the horse racing community. Our mission is to offer spiritual guidance, emotional care, and practical resources to the men and women who work tirelessly behind the scenes. We strive to be a beacon of hope and encouragement, fostering a sense of community and belonging for backstretch workers, jockeys, and their families. By meeting individuals where they are, we aim to bring faith and compassion directly to the racetrack, ensuring that no one is overlooked in this demanding industry.
Our Services
Partnering and Support
For over 10 years, Bensalem UMC has been partnering with the Chaplain at Philadelphia Racetrack to support the men who work in the backlot of the track and their families.
Back to School
We gather and provide backpacks and essential school supplies for students in elementary, middle, and high school. Each year, we prepare between 150 to 250 filled bags to support local children attending Bensalem schools. Additionally, we often supply 10 to 20 backpacks to guidance counselors within these schools to ensure every student has the tools they need to succeed.
Food and Reverse Advent
Throughout the year, we come together to gather food for the men residing in the dorms and the families living nearby. One of our cherished traditions is inviting church families to join in a reverse advent initiative. Each day, participants add a food item to a box, which they bring to the church by Christmas Eve, spreading joy and nourishment to those in need.
Supporting the Chaplaincy Through Outreach
Bensalem United Methodist Church is deeply committed to supporting the Parx Racetrack Chaplaincy by engaging in meaningful outreach and generous donations. Our church community actively participates in providing essential resources such as meals, hygiene products, and warm clothing to the workers and their families at the racetrack.
